Bentley Organic brings 200 years of expertise to organic skin care
With over 200 years of experience, the Bentley family know a thing or two about cleansing products.
Thos. Bentley & Son was established in Leeds in the 1800s, making soap for the textile industry and has since gone from strength to strength.
In 2006, the company branched out in a new but related area, launching Bentley Organic, which started in a similar vein to the original firm, producing a small range of organic soap products.
The new development was the idea of Jamie Bentley, a fifth generation family member, who saw a gap in the market, according to Chris Holmes, sales and marketing representative at Bentley Organic.
"He felt that good quality organic products don't have to have a premium," Mr Holmes explained.
The parent company provides the financing for Bentley Organic to live up to its mantra, 'Of the Earth, not costing the Earth', selling quality products at a reasonable price.
"It sounds cliche but we really stand by that," Mr Holmes said.
"We have the facilities to be able to use our economics of scale and drop the price to make it accessible for all to make that choice," he continued. "We're providing affordable alternatives to the premium-priced, uncertified competitors."
Bentley Organic is the only soap-making plant in the world to have both the Soil Association certification and the ISO 14001 Environmental Standard.
Mr Holmes said that this was an important aspect of the company, adding: "We haven't attached a premium for that certification."
Having started out with just soap, the company has moved on to organic skin care and organic hair care, as well as home and baby ranges.
Bentley Organic is new to the mypure website and some of the organic skin care products being sold via the website include the Revitalising Handwash with Cinnamon, Sweet Orange and Clove Bud, Calming Body Lotion with Lavender and Chamomile and the Toy Sanitizer.
"The Bentley Organic home cleaning products are one of the only natural home care ranges which do not include artificial fragrances," commented Simon Golding, biochemical engineer and founder of mypure.co.uk.
Mr Holmes said that the company is always looking to move into new areas.
"Like any brand, we're developing new products all the time, we've got a couple of products now that we're designing and hopefully they'll be on the market within the next few months," he explained, although he was unable to reveal any specific details.
"We're pushing organic boundaries as far as they can go," Mr Holmes insisted.
The company is also looking to compete on a level with major cosmetics brands, introducing natural but affordable products for the beauty market.
"I think it's an exciting time at the moment for organic," he concluded.
