Organic sun protection Lovea hits the UK

Organic sun protection Lovea hits the UK Organic skin care products are becoming increasingly popular with consumers and, as the summer comes around, more and more will be looking for organic sun protection.

One of best brands out there is Lovea, a French cosmetics company which has created a range of products that is Ecocert certified and includes sun creams with a variety of protection factors, a moisturising after-sun milk and a self-tanning spray.

Lovea's products are all free from paraben, phenoxyethanol, genetically modified organisms, silicone, polyethelene glycol, colorants and synthetic scents.

They contain the natural fragrance, Tahitian Monoi, which is a natural product obtained by soaking Tiare flowers in refined copra oil extracted from ripe coconuts harvested in French Polynesia at the ripe nut stage.

This ingredient softens the skin after washing and moisturises it gradually. It also fights against the combined effects of salt, sun and the wind.

Simon Golding, bio-chemical engineer and founder of mypure, explains that there are two types of sun protection products on the market - physical reflective screens that work by diverting UV rays away from the skin and chemical-absorbing protection that soaks up UV rays and reduces their energy before they hit the skin.

"Health concerns have existed for some time with many UV absorbing chemicals," Mr Golding says.

"Firstly many are suspected of being endocrine disruptors which means they interfere with our hormones.

"Secondly it is suspected these UV absorbers re-emit the energy they absorb and this re-emitted energy can damage our cell DNA," he continues.

One of the most commonly used UV absorbing chemicals is oxybenzone.

"Natural sunscreens favour physical reflective UV barriers such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. These ingredients lay on the surface of the skin and reflect the sun's rays away from the body," Mr Golding adds.

He explains that there has also been concern recently that nano particle zinc oxide and titanium dioxide can be absorbed into the skin, so most organic and natural sunscreens do not use nano particle technology anymore.

Mypure will be selling Lovea exclusively for the next two weeks, after which it will be available in stories such as Fresh & Wild, Wholefoods, Nutricentre and As Nature Intended.

If you go to mypure.co.uk you will find a special launch promotion for the Lovea range. Buy any two sunscreens and you can get a free Lovea after-sun, which would usually cost you £8.99.

Use the promotional code SUMMERFUN at the checkout to take advantage of this great offer, which ends midnight on Friday June 19th.
