Barefoot Botanicals founder offers tips for new year pampering

Barefoot Botanicals founder offers tips for new year pampering New year's resolutions are the order of the day once we get into January, with many people deciding to go on a health kick and revitalise their beauty regime.

A recent report by Mintel suggested that one of the ways people are aiming to improve their wellbeing this year is through eating and drinking better.

The market research firm said that the crossover between food and beauty is becoming increasingly apparent.

Global launches of food and drink products which claim to have a beauty enhancing effect rose by 306 per cent between 2005 and 2008, the study showed.

Indeed, Hillary Dorrien, co-founder of natural skin care company Barefoot Botanicals, who also has 25 years' experience as a professional homeopath suggested that people change their diet and beauty regime to feel altogether healthier in 2010.

People who want to improve their wellbeing should make sure they have a nutritious, healthy and balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, she said.

"Cut down on your sugar intake and incorporate some sort of exercise on a daily basis, this can be as simple as a brisk 30-minute walk," she recommended.

When it comes to updating your beauty regime and indulging in a bit of new year pampering, a moisturiser that is full of antioxidants "can work wonders on the skin", as will a soothing face oil applied at night.

"I would recommend Barefoot Botanicals Rosa Fina Radiance Anti Ageing Moisturiser during the day, it will leave your skin feeling soft and dewy," she said.

"Use a slightly heavier moisturiser in the winter. Barefoot Botanicals S.O.S Face and Body Cream is ideal for dehydrated skin, it moisturises the most parched of skins," Ms Dorrien continued.

The cold and harsh weather has made it a tough start to the year for our skin, with many people suffering from dryness and irritation, so Ms Dorrien recommended that women drink plenty of water to flush out toxins, which helps to keep skin clear and hydrated.

"This can be natural mineral or ordinary tap water," she said, also advising that people "keep alcohol and caffeine to a minimum to reduce the effects of dehydration".

The new year also often brings about the desire to rewind the years and look younger. Ms Dorrien suggested that women wanting to keep wrinkles at bay should massage the skin with a face oil.

"Sweep in small circular motions across the jaw-line and sweeping motions upwards and outwards on the neck," she recommended.

" Barefoot Botanicals Face & Decolletage Oil contains anti-ageing rosehip seed oil and works wonders for all skin types," Ms Dorrien added.
