Get that summer glow with natural cosmetics

Get that summer glow with natural cosmetics With summer now upon us and holidays to hot destinations coming up, thoughts are turning to how to appear our best with the use of natural cosmetics.

Some of us may want to stay looking like radiant English roses, but others may prefer to be bronzed beauties when they hit the beach.

If this is the case, avoid the temptation to test out those sunbeds before a holiday begins.

The NHS said that tanning on a sunbed is just as dangerous as tanning in the sun and can even be more harmful, particularly if you've got fair or sensitive skin, or freckles and moles.

Clearly, this is an option best avoided, as is baking in the sun outdoors once you get away on your longed-for holiday.

To avoid the sun harming your delicate skin, it's best to avoid its rays during the middle of the day (11:00am 'til 15:00pm) and to make sure you wear sunscreen that is at least factor 30 and broad spectrum, as recommended by the British Association of Dermatologists [BAD].

"We also know that people just don't like applying sunscreen thickly. So recommending a higher SPF is a practical approach to tackling this, to try to ensure people are getting an adequate SPF from their product," Nina Goad of BAD said.

Make sure that you slap on the sunscreen at least 20 minutes before you're going to be outside and then top it up every two hours.

But once you're all smoother in sunscreen and covered up how are you supposed to get that enviable tan? The answer is cosmetics – the perfect excuse to go out and buy some!

You can get some bronzer and apply it to the areas of your face where the sun would hit – forehead, nose, cheekbones and chin – for a gorgeous sun-kissed glow.

It's also worthwhile applying a small amount to your eyes and neck, so you're the same colour all over.

Makeup artists Raychel Wade told Fashionista.com that you should also change your beauty products come summer, going for cream rather than powder blusher, as the former will not get clumpy when the mercury soars.

On holiday you're also bound to be taking a lot of pictures, so Ms Wade advised that you should make sure that you don't use too many shimmery products.

In the summer sun it's best to go for a natural glow enhanced by make-up, taking good care of your skin in the process.
