Get the skinny on the great tanning debate
There has been a big debate this summer about the tanning issue – to tan or not to tan?
But now there is a new question, which is arguably the one that is more likely to make women shun the tanning salons: is tanning actually out of fashion?
Gone are the days where the stars were glowing a shade of orange, and now the A-listers who we idolise and look to for inspiration style wise – Cheryl Cole, Victoria Beckham and Christina Hendricks to name but a few, are showing us that pale could in fact be more interesting.
On top of this, being pale is also healthier for our skin (something which many women seem to be magically able to ignore when it comes to summer).
Bevis Man, from the British Skin Foundation, hit the nail on the head, stating: "A lot of people wrongly associate a tan with being healthy, when in fact it's actually a sign that your skin is being damaged."
However, one issue which needs to be addressed before the women of Britain shun the sunbeds for good, is how to achieve the confidence that only seems to come with a tanned bod.
A recent survey by London Gatwick Airport found that 56 per cent of women believed that having a pre-bronzed body when they hit the beach on the first day of their holiday would help them to feel more confident - and let's face it, we've all felt that first-day beach scrutiny at some point.
If you are one of those women, then a couple of weeks before your holiday invest in some bronzer (see Inika Mineral Bronzer) and a self tan that's gentle enough to not leave you looking streaky (which has to be worse than no tan at all).
Take a look at Evolve Beauty Skin Glow Body Cream - a natural product designed to give you an overall healthy glow with an added touch of fake tan.
If you're still intent on a tan, then do it as safely as possible - slap on some Lovea Organic Sunscreen SPF 30 Natural Sunscreen Spray and invest in a striking bikini that will help to take away the focus from your barely-there tan.
Be sure to look after your face too, try Lovea Organic Sunscreen SPF 50 Daily Face Cream.
Whatever your feelings on this debate, one thing is for sure – it will take a long time before women give up the fake tan bottle – in fashion or not!
