How to maintain a healthy glow during the winter months Ingredients found in the kitchen can help ensure faces are protected against the harsh winter weather.

This is according to Become Gorgeous, which recommends a host of foods which are "packed with minerals and antioxidants" that can boost the health of skin.

Ladies were encouraged to use natural products to create a protective shield against biting winds and cold temperatures.

In an article for MSNBC, dermatologist Dr Jeanine Downie recently commented that the best way to stay looking radiant is to ensure the face is well moisturised.

"Constantly switching between indoor air and the harsh and cold winds of outdoor air removes moisture from the skin," she stated.

It was noted that dry, cracked and irritated skin can be vulnerable to infection and so it is vital beauty routines are adapted in winter to reflect the change in the climate.

Become Gorgeous recommends hydrating the face through a range of natural face creams and homemade masks.

Cranberries are said to be rich in antioxidants and will "brighten up your complexion in an instant".

Meanwhile, a cucumber and parsley facial was described as a great soothing treatment for the face.

Alternatively, using a fruit and vegetable combination was encouraged as a good way to rejuvenate skin.

"In a bowl, mix one mashed avocado with two tablespoons of plain yogurt, one teaspoon of olive oil and one mashed banana," Become Gorgeous recommends, adding that after 25 minutes on the face, skin should feel revitalised.

As well as applying natural moisturisers to the face, Dr Downie advised individuals to avoid taking hot showers as they "wreak havoc on your skin".

Instead, the expert suggested bathing in lukewarm water and, after patting skin dry with a towel, applying creams to the body within three minutes to lock in the moisture.
