One of the key ingredients within these products is Manuka Oil. Extracted from the leaves of the New Zealand native Manuka tree, it is over 30 times stronger than Tea Tree Oil on gram-positive bacteria, which are the key types of microbes found on the facial skin.
As Ms Allan highlighted, its antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties make it great for fighting the micro-organisms that cause irritation and blemishes.
Manuka Honey, meanwhile, has been approved by the US and EU governments for use in hospitals for healing wounds. It has been used for centuries in beauty treatments because of its soothing, healing and moisturising properties.
It gently stimulates cell renewal as it hydrates and maintains moisture levels without feeling greasy.
As well as Manuka Oil and Honey, the products also contain Tocopherol, a healing antioxidant known as "the skin vitamin", which protects skin against the ageing effects of free radicals. Ethically extracted from non-genetically modified soybeans, it can work wonders on scars and dehydration.
