Skin Blossom offers 'safe but affordable' organic skin care

Skin Blossom offers 'safe but affordable' organic skin care Skin Blossom has a mission: to bring safe and effective organic skin care to people at affordable prices.

Founder Cristina Beetham has a strong ethical background, having studied for a BSC in Wildlife Conservation. She started Skin Blossom in 2007 after she realised there was a short supply of affordable skin care on the market.

Concerned about the effects of using products containing the kind of chemical ingredients found in conventional skin care, she began formulating her own products.

The advantage of using Skin Blossom is that the products have been designed to work in harmony with the skin, Ms Beetham explained.

Products contain "beautiful ingredients from nature that really have amazing effects on the skin", she said. "There's lots of organic plant oils that are really full of nutrients and are great for skin softness."

They are also free from harsh and toxic ingredients like parabens and sodium laureth sulphate.

"We don't believe in putting in anything that would aggravate your skin so they're really gentle, they're even good for people who have sensitive skin."

The first range from Skin Blossom is Organic Bloom, a collection of products certified by The Soil Association, which is a stamp of approval for consumers so that they know the ingredients have met strict criteria in terms of processing and environmental impact.

It includes the Gentle Cleansing Milk, Nourishing Face Moisturiser, Care and Protect Hand Cream, Cleanse and Nourish Body Wash and Moisturising Body Lotion.

"Our bestseller is our Nourishing Face Moisturiser," Ms Beetham said. It is made from 88 per cent organic components so it is "absolutely packed with gorgeous ingredients".

One of these is jojoba oil, which is a really good antioxidant. "It's filled with vitamins and minerals so it's a really good natural anti-ager," Ms Beetham explained.

"It's also kind of like a liquid wax so it seeps into your skin really nicely, leaves your skin feeling really good, but you get protection all day as well against wind, rain, pollution, that sort of thing."

The Nourishing Face Moisturiser also contains glycerine which is "very hydrating" and shea butter and vitamin E. It has won a Pure Beauty Award, cementing it as an "all-round really good moisturiser".

"People are using it and coming back for more," Ms Beetham said.

The Cleansing Milk and Care and Protect Hand Cream have both won Beauty Bible Beauty Steal awards.

"It's really good award to win because they just go to ten normal, everyday people who know nothing about the brand and have no financial gain from it and they just test the product," Ms Beetham said.

The hand cream is fragranced with rose geranium "which is really uplifting so you get a little pick-me-up when you use it", while the cleansing milk is "really gentle" and provides a "nice cleanse but doesn't strip the skin of any of its natural oils".
