Authority must 'get a grip of food safety'
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) must pay closer attention to the contents of supplements, according to one expert.
People interested in natural and organic food may be interested to hear the comments made by Anne Hart, a nutrition correspondent for Examiner.com.
She said that a new bill which is passing through the US legislation process must become law if the FDA is to gain the powers it needs to scrutinise certain foods and drugs.
Ms Hart said: "If the bill passes, it would require the FDA to significantly expand its inspection and oversight of the food and drug industry."
She added that even if the bill is passed, more money needs to be invested to ensure that consumers are properly protected from unnatural foods and products.
The concerns will be particularly relevant to people who take supplements along with eating organic foods.
