Natural beauty food: Fish oil could combat mental illness
Young people who are at risk of mental illness could use fish oil as an effective treatment, according to a new report, which one expert said should lead to more research into the substance.
Fans of natural skin care could be interested in the study published in the Archives of General Psychiatry, which found that omega-3 fish oil was beneficial to patients suffering from a range of conditions, including schizophrenia.
A Rethink spokesperson said that although the report is positive, more research has to be completed before people get too excited.
"There isn't enough evidence to suggest that fish oils could replace antipsychotics. More research is needed but we already know that medication is not the only mode of treatment for schizophrenia," she added.
In other news, the Daily Mail stated that curry ingredients such as turmeric, cumin, allspice, cardamom, ginger, garlic and capsicum all have strong anti-bacterial properties and are popular in hot countries where meat needs to preserved.
