Natural food: High salt intake could damage health
Fans of natural skin care who consume large amounts of salt could be at higher risk of suffering from a stroke or cardiovascular disease, according to research published in the British Medical Journal.
The World Health Organization's (WHO's) Collaborating Centre for Nutrition and the Hypertension Excellence Centre in Naples, Italy carried out the study which showed that reducing the amount of salt people consume every day by five grams could reduce the chances of a stroke by 23 per cent and cardiovascular disease by 17 per cent.
Researchers claim that cutting the salt intake by their recommended amount would prevent 1.25 million strokes every year.
Professor Francesco Cappuccio, head of the WHO Collaboration Centre, said: "We have seen reductions in the salt content of several food items [
] However, the progress towards recommended targets has been slow."
The Daily Mail recently reported that researchers from St Andrews University found that men prefer women with rosy looking skin, which is developed by eating lots of fruit and vegetables.
