Natural food: Pistachios could reduce lung cancer risk
Fans of organic makeup who want to reduce their chances of developing lung cancer should make sure they have a diet which incorporates a daily dose of pistachios, according to one expert.
Ladia Hernandez, senior research dietician in the department of epidemiology at the University of Texas, said that the nuts contain high levels of gamma-tocopherol.
"It is known that vitamin E provides a degree of protection against certain forms of cancer. Higher intakes of gamma-tocopherol, which is a form of vitamin E, may reduce the risk of lung cancer," she said.
Pistachios also produce a cholesterol-lowering effect, according to the expert who added that the food may help people avoid prostate cancer, as do peanuts, pecans, walnuts, soybean and corn oils.
A group at the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center found that foods with turmeric and pepper limit the chances of developing breast cancer.
