Natural produce: Labelling GM foods is crucial
Fans of natural skin care should be able to find out exactly what is in the foods they are consuming and whether or not they contain genetically modified (GM) elements, according to one expert.
Emma Hockridge, policy manager for The Soil Association, said that the organisation is campaigning for clearer labelling of produce because people want transparency from food companies.
She said: "Obviously we have labelling if there are actually GM ingredients, but there is this hidden GM found in our food in terms of animal feed which is used to produce our meat and dairy."
The expert added that after writing to the Food Standards Agency, the organisation will continue to push for compulsory and informative labelling to be introduced soon.
Fans of natural beauty food could be interested to find that labelling laws in Germany and Austria have made clear that products can only be labelled GM free if they are produced by animals not fed with GM feed.
