Nutrient-rich foods described as the key to good health
Individuals may want to increase their intake of superfoods, as the importance of eating produce that is high in natural nutrients has been highlighted.
Tony Bishop-Weston, food writer and founder of Foods for Life, claimed it is vital people of all ages eat plenty of "whole foods".
He urged Brits to "eat more foods that are naturally rich in soluble fibre, vitamins minerals, anti-oxidants and essential fats".
In addition, individuals were encouraged to reduce their consumption of processed items, as these often have any natural nutrients "refined out of them".
Mr Bishop-Weston noted that as people age, it is more important than ever that they eat foods that are "dense" in vitamins and minerals.
This is due to digestive systems becoming weaker and so the absorption of nutrients is increasingly difficult.
Sian Porter, spokeswoman for the British Dietetic Association, recently advised people to switch to wholegrain rice, pasta and bread, as these are healthy staple alternatives to white products.
