Poor skin reflects toxins in the body, expert warns

Poor skin reflects toxins in the body, expert warns A lack of superfoods that are rich in vitamins and antioxidants can lead to individuals developing an unhealthy skin appearance.

This is according to corporate trainer at the International Dermal Institute Victoria Evans, who explained how "a poor diet will reflect in the skin".

She explained how the food people consume directly affects their pallor and can contribute to spots and a sallow complexion.

"By generally being unhealthy, the skin is more likely to look more toxic and get more congested," Ms Evans commented.

She warned individuals that a fatty diet can cause toxins to build-up in the body, which will prevent people from looking radiant.

According to Ms Evans: "If you don't have a lot of essential fats or vitamins, then your skin, body and general health is not going to be reflective of health."

In order to boost skin appearance, it was suggested altering diets to include foods rich in antioxidants will give it the chance to regenerate and repair any damage.

The expert noted that vitamins and essential fatty acids will benefit the skin, with omega-3 and omega-6 particularly good.

Ms Evans advised people to eat oily fish, fruit and vegetables and nuts, as these foods are rich in both ingredients.

Her tips follow those by nutritionist and author Suzi Grant, who recently explained how avocado is a superfood, as it contains the essential fats needed to promote hair, eye and skin health.

Other vegetable that are beneficial include celeriac, beetroot and carrots, she claimed, explaining how these are currently in season and best baked in the oven.

Meanwhile, spokeswoman for the British Dietetic Association Sian Porter commented that switching to wholegrain rice and pasta products is a good way to introduce healthy staple foods into a diet, as well as helping to boost fibre intake.
