Rose hips boost vitamin C, expert states
Rose hips have been revealed as one of the best superfoods for boosting vitamin C intake.
Davina Wynne-Jones, founder of herbsforhealing.net, which offers workshops in the practical use of herbs, explained how the seed pods come from wild rose flowers.
Individuals were encouraged to pick hips and place them in a jar filled with white wine vinegar for three weeks before straining the liquid and having it as a daily drink.
Ms Wynne-Jones said: "It is a really good drink to have in the winter because it is filled with vitamin C and could also probably lower cholesterol and blood pressure as well."
According to a recent report in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, daily consumption of 40g of rose hip powder for six weeks can significantly reduce cardiovascular risk in obese people.
Ms Wynne-Jones recommended also infusing white wine vinegar with hawthorn berries, as these are believed to be good for the heart.
