Winter diets 'should be high in protein'

Winter diets 'should be high in protein' In winter, individuals should adapt their diet to ensure they are getting the right nutrients but not putting on weight.

This is according to nutritional therapist and co-author of The De-Stress Diet Charlotte Watts, who explained how the body craves fats and sugar as the weather turns colder.

However, people may be more inclined to eat superfoods rather than processed produce after hearing how items such as avocado, nuts and oily fish can satisfy these cravings.

"What is really crucial is to make sure that you have protein with breakfast," Ms Watts - who wrote the book with Anna Magee - commented, adding that failing to include this can lead to sugar urges kicking in.

The expert recommended having savoury goods first thing "so you're not just setting off the sweet cravings in the morning".

Yvonne Bishop-Weston, nutritional therapist from Foods for Life, explained how planning to eat healthily five nights a week and having two treat days can help people to avoid putting on weight during the festive period.
