Ancient Chinese therapy really does work!
Fans of natural body care may be interested to read a recent story published in the Daily Telegraph: Scientists have found that the pain killing benefits of acupuncture are not all in the mind…
The ancient Chinese therapy works by stimulating a natural painkiller in the body that swells arteries and allows more blood to flow through. Adenosine, a natural pain killer, is released during acupuncture and it is believed this is what reduces the pain.
Scientists also discovered if they gave a drug which slowed the removal of adenosine then the pain killing benefits of acupuncture lasted three times longer.
Dr Maiken Nedergaard, a neuroscientist at the University of Rochester, New York, said: "Acupuncture has been a mainstay of medical treatment in certain parts of the world for 4,000 years, but because it has not been understood completely, many people have remained sceptical.
