Complacency with sun protection is a problem

Complacency with sun protection is a problem Fans of natural skin care products could be relying too heavily on products which contain sun protection factors and not applying them throughout the day as they would with conventional sun care cosmetics, according to new research.

Scientists from the University of Nantes tested popular moisturisers, foundations and anti-ageing creams, which claim to offer SPF from four up to 30, and found that 20 per cent of those tested hardly any protection against the sun.

In the report, which was published in the Archives of Dermatological Research, the group said: "Skin care products are applied once, in the morning, so any product displaying an SPF must be particularly photostable, as its labelling does not indicate reapplication."

The group added that traditional sun care products make it clear that they need to be applied throughout the day.

In other news, Dr Daryl Hoffman recently stated that applying sunscreen every day, especially for men who work outdoors, is a vital way of protecting skin from harmful UV rays.
