Cosmetic chemicals 'linked to infertility'
Chemicals contained in a number of cosmetic products have been linked to damaged male fertility if exposure takes place when in the womb, highlighting the importance of natural skin care.
The compounds are also present in food and cleaning products, although reproductive biologist Professor Richard Sharpe suggests many are harmless on their own.
He tells the BBC that exposure can disrupt hormones needed for male development and links this to rising levels of birth defects, testicular cancer and falling sperm counts.
"It is the summation of effect of hormone-disrupting chemicals that is critical
This provides the strongest possible incentive to minimise human exposure to all relevant hormone disruptors," he states.
Professor Sharpe highlights the risk for pregnant women, saying that the number of these chemicals people are exposed to is considerable.
In other news, the Aberdeen Press and Journal has claimed that raw ingredients such as avocado and honey can help the anti-ageing process.
