Families 'should buy paraben-free sunscreen'
Families looking to buy sunscreen should ensure they are purchasing a natural skin care product that will not harm them, a website asserts.
EcoChildsplay.com recommends picking products that are phthalate free and paraben free, as well as those that do not contain emulsifiers, thickeners or synthetic preservatives.
In addition to using natural skin care products of this type, it advises parents to ensure that their children stay out of the sun during the hours when it is strongest, which is usually between 10.00 and 14.00.
Those outside during these hours could require additional protection for their delicate skin, it claims.
"Sun protection is a must, but with parabens and PABA and all kinds of things showing up in personal care products, should you lather up or just cover up?" the website asks.
Paraben free products omit a compound which is commonly included in most cosmetic goods and research has suggested it could be linked to breast cancer.
