Paraben-free products could be safer
Consumers thinking of using paraben-free products could be making a wise choice as the full effects of the preservatives are not understood, according to one expert.
Health and Beauty correspondent for Examiner.com, Camille Kruse, made the comments when running down her top ten of natural beauty myths.
The journalist said: "Some people fear they may be carcinogenic. The US Food and Drug Administration said parabens are safe, but more testing needs to be done."
Other natural beauty myths which featured in the top ten included the incorrect belief that oily skin types should focus on drying products. Ms Kruse said that focusing on the maintenance of oily skin is more effective than trying to dry it out.
She also said that people should not believe that sunscreens which contain a higher sun protection factor are necessarily better, as they may use more chemicals and give a false sense of security.
Canadians are leading the way in using natural skin care products, the Calgary Herald has claimed, saying that people living in the country are embracing paraben-free products.
