Natural beauty: Men are "feeling pressure to look good"

Natural beauty: Men are "feeling pressure to look good" Men are facing increasing pressure to look good, which is also being accompanied by a rise in eating disorders, according to an expert.

Peter Baker, chief executive of the Men's Health Forum, said there is an increasing feeling of anxiety about men's body image and natural beauty, and part of this problem is blamed on magazines showcasing men with the kind of body "that is almost unachievable for anyone".

"Men are feeling pressure to think about their appearance and I think that this is nothing new," he said.

Mr Baker added that men are now beginning to experience some of the natural beauty social and cultural pressures that women have faced for much longer.

A survey for Superdrug conducted earlier this year found that men now spend longer getting ready to go out than women do, with men dedicating 83 minutes of the day to their personal grooming, including cleansing, toning and moisturising, shaving, styling hair and choosing clothes.
