Use straighteners 'as directed', natural hair care fans told
If you love a sleek, poker-straight mane, it's likely that your best friend is your straighteners.
And you wouldn't be alone – research from Mintel shows that over 25 per cent of women can't live without the all-important styling implement.
However, natural hair care fans have been reminded that as useful as they are, straighteners can play havoc with your locks if you don't follow advice.
Petros Mairoudhiou, stylist at Trevor Sorbie Covent Garden, said that anyone with out-of-condition hair should steer clear of using heating irons, as they will exacerbate any problems that you already have.
"Dry, damaged, brittle hair does not benefit from being straightened as the excess heat can be even more damaging," he explained.
Heat protection natural shampoo and conditioner might be one way to go – but if you want to try something new and give your mane a break, Mr Mairoudhiou said that soft, textured waves and curls are proving a big hit on the red carpet.
