Natural makeup: Egyptians cosmetics may have been protective
Ancient Egyptian natural makeup may have helped to protect users against illness, according to a new study, which has dispelled some myths surrounding the safety of lead-based cosmetics.
Research published in the journal Analytical Chemistry, showed that the ancient substances increased the production of nitric oxide in skin cells, which can help boost the immune system and prevent certain types of infections.
"Some ancient Egyptians thought their lead-based black eye makeup could protect against illness. Until now, scientists haven't believed this because lead-based substances - such as paint -can make people sick," stated Yahoo.com.
The study author Christian Amatore, of the Universite Pierre and Marie Curie, said that contaminated water may have meant that ancient Egyptians had lots of problems with eye infections.
Pop star Savannah Outen has recently revealed her beauty tips, which include applying sunscreen and trying to be as natural as possible with her makeup.
