Natural skin care and makeup 'beneficial for older ladies'
Choosing the right makeup for your skin-type, tone and complexion can be difficult at any age, but as you get older it becomes even more important if you want to look more like Helen Mirren than Joan Rivers.
Kim Ponting, national trainer at natural skincare and cosmetics company Living Nature, recommends that women stay away from heavy makeup as they get older, as excess product can sit in the creases of the skin and highlight fine lines and wrinkles.
She recommends mineral makeup, which has a "fish-scale effect", overlapping on the skin to provide complete, even coverage.
Alternatively, Living Nature's tinted moisturiser is ideal for light coverage, "with a hint of our warm summer or cool winter blush for added warmth to the skin", Ms Ponting says.
"Eyes can be highlighted using our range of eye shadows. My favourite is ferns, as it is a perfect shade of green," she adds.
The product comes in a duo palette with a soft pinky beige colour.
Ms Ponting suggests combining this shadow with the 'midnight' eye pencil, which she says is perfect for providing definition.
"Older women should keep the eye shadow to just half of the eyelid without applying right up to the eyebrow.
"Concentrate on either the eyes or lips - don't apply too much makeup on both otherwise you can end up looking heavily made up," she adds.
If you prefer to accentuate your pout, Ms Ponting suggests choosing a delicate pink, such as Living Nature's 'pink whisper' lip gloss, which she recommends applying after using the 'laughter' lip pencil to define and re-shape your pout.
When it comes to taking care of your skin, the expert recommends a strict regime of cleansing, hydrating and moisturising, which should be started from a young age.
"As you get older you need to be using products that have particular ingredients that will help stimulate cell renewal and boost the synthesis of our own collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. The best ingredients for this would be rosehip oil, vitamin E and totarol," she explains.
Ms Ponting recommends that ladies use Living Nature's Vitalising Cleanser, Extra Hydrating Toning Gel, Nourising Day Cream and Firming Flax Serum as part of their beauty regime.
"For added anti-ageing effect put Radiance Night Oil on the skin before you apply the night cream as this has proven results to delay the signs of ageing," she says.
Ms Ponting says that natural skin care products are beneficial for mature women.
"As you get older your skin thins and is more prone to sensitise, especially if you use chemical-based makeup. Natural makeup is lighter on the skin so will not cake in fine lines and wrinkles," she concludes.
