Statement lips can work with any natural skin care tone
If you want a look that's full of glamour and impact, make statement lips your new autumn natural makeup trend.
At London Fashion Week, a number of shows, including Twenty8Twelve, added drama with a splash of strong lip colour. Celebrities are getting in on the act as well, with Leighton Meester and Blake Lively from Gossip Girl embracing the striking style in recent weeks.
Makeup artist Jill McKay said that bold natural lipstick can be worn by anyone, regardless of skin tone, but that it is important to carefully consider your shade.
Ms McKay said: "Cool-toned shades [for pale complexions] are lipsticks with blue or red undertones, such as violet, red and pink. Warmer lip colours [to suit darker skin tones] have hints of gold, such as orangey reds, corals, browns and reddish browns."
Madeline Crisp, writing for the Daily Mirror, has said that everyone should be working with matte palettes this season for a cutting-edge look.
