Truly organic products 'need scrutiny'
Fans of organic skin care products need to pay close attention to what they are putting on their bodies, according to one expert, who said plans to tightly regulate these products cannot come soon enough.
Honor Schauland, web editor of the Organic Consumers Association, told the San Francisco Chronicle that people who eat organic food should also use natural skin care products.
She said: "If you are going to go the extra mile to eat organic, it makes sense to put [organic] stuff on your skin."
Sales of personal care products which contain the term organic have increased by just under 20 per cent, according to the newspaper ,which said the market is now worth $443 million (£260 million) in the US.
Good Housekeeping recently said that organic and natural skin care products are good for people's complexions because they do not contain harmful chemical-based irritants.
