Expert: Don't damage organic skin care routines with tanning
If you're considering topping up your tan with a quick stint on a sunbed this summer, then think again – ladies (and men) have been warned that UV exposure could pose more health risks than just to our organic skin care routine.
Bevis Man, spokesperson for the British Skin Foundation, has advised natural skin care fans should already be covering up when out in the sun due to the health risks associated with too much exposure, but added that research has shown the eyes may also suffer too.
"If people are that worried about getting a tan, there are safer alternatives [to sunbeds], like spray tanning and self tanning creams that can do the same job but without the health risks associated with sunbed use," he said.
Mr Man added that natural skin care fans are best advised to protect their peepers by simply ensuring they wear a pair of sunglasses or a wide brimmed hat.
His comments follow a recent warning from the College of Optometrists about the effect of UV rays on the eyes, which can include benign eye growths or affected sight in later life.
