Expert: Old organic makeup is unhealthy
Women have been warned that, no matter how great their organic skin care routine, their makeup could be having a negative effect on their beauty.
Angela Bowers, a dermatologist at Baylor Regional Medical Center, in Texas, explained to TBO.com that, while we may be storing up our old natural makeup for a rainy day, it could be damaging for our skin.
"The bacteria can get in there, and the preservatives might not be working quite as well as they were when you first opened it. If you get some of that in your eye, you may develop conjunctivitis, which we know as pink eye," the expert said, adding that old products can also cause breakouts or more serious skin problems.
So if you've just invested in a blood-red lipstick to be in-keeping with Givenchy models, bear in mind the date on which you opened it and throw it away after one year.
Foundations should also only be kept for one year, but mascaras should be thrown after just three months.
