Flaky skin needs extra moisture
Fans of natural beauty suffering from flaky skin need to make sure they are moisturising their skin enough and not soaking in the bath for too long, according to one expert who said retaining hydration is vital.
Consultant dermatologist Dr Nick Lowe told the Metro that avoiding long baths and opting for shorter warm showers will be beneficial to skin during the winter months.
"Swap your normal bar of soap for a body wash to add moisture and reduce scaling. Pat rather than rub your skin to avoid further moisture loss and slather your body with a cream while skin is damp to lock in moisture," he said.
The dermatologist added that making sure hands are moisturised is very important as they are constantly exposed to extremes of temperature.
Marcella Knibb, corporate trainer for the International Dermal Institute, recently said that buying a good quality moisturiser is essential for people who want to preserve their skin this winter.
