More consumers opting for organic cosmetics
Organic cosmetics are growing in popularity as more savvy consumers question the ingredients in their makeup and skin care products.
Stacy Malkan, spokeswoman for The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, said that the demand for information regarding the possible dangers related to the toiletries has grown in recent years.
She explained: "More people are definitely becoming aware of the potential risks of conventional products and the benefits of natural and organic products."
Ms Malkan said that the organisation's cosmeticdatabase.org is currently handling around one million searches per month, as people search to see the potential toxicity of the personal hygiene and cosmetic items they use at home.
She added: "Many people are using the database to find less toxic products, and many companies have used it to reformulate their products to remove chemicals of concern."
The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics is a coalition launched in 2004 to protect the health of consumers by providing information on everyday products.
