Natural skin care: Clear skin 'universally desired'

Natural skin care: Clear skin 'universally desired' People may be eager to ensure they have an effective natural skin care regime as a way to achieve a glowing complexion, as clarity of skin is almost universally considered "desirable".

Psychologist and academic author Dr Linda Papadopoulos said that it is widely accepted that clear skin "is an indicator of health and wellness, so culturally it becomes hugely significant".

However, the focus on flawless complexions and a lack of understanding about the causes of skin disease can result in difficulties for people who suffer from conditions such as psoriasis, she warned.

Dr Papadopoulos explained that misguided fears that the psoriasis can be 'caught' or is the result of not applying natural moisturiser can often lead sufferers to avoid situations and change their lifestyle to keep their condition under wraps.

"We see a lot of anxiety stories deriving out of skin disorders because of this genuine fear of, 'Will I be judged?'" she added.

Psoriasis is an inflammatory skin disease which affects around two per cent of the population – meaning that 1.2 million British are living with the condition.
