Natural skin care is 'essential' for good tanning
Preparing skin thoroughly is vital if women want to achieve the best possible fake tan this summer and achieve natural beauty, according to one expert.
Joanne King, head of beauty at Urban Retreat in Harrods, told the Independent about the importance of getting skin ready before a holiday so that it can respond well to being exposed to the sun.
She said: "Perform any hair removal 24 hours before a treatment to ensure the skin's natural oils are not unbalanced and to prevent streaking."
The beauty expert added that women need to exfoliate and could try a grainy scrub with non-dissolving grains and a moisturising base to get the best results.
Paying close attention to elbows and heels is also important, according to Ms King, who said they needed to be deeply hydrated.
The benefits of a good tan were recently pointed out by The-Dish.co.uk which stated that women are more likely to sport a more natural beauty look if they have healthier-looking skin.
