Organic skin care products 'widely available and affordable'
Organic skin care products and organic cosmetics are becoming more popular, according to an expert.
A spokeswoman for the Soil Association said that consumers are increasingly realising that certified organic health and beauty items are "widely available and affordable".
She explained that the sector has seen rapid growth in the last three years, with sales jumping by 69 per cent in 2008, to £27 million annually – a figure that climbed again in 2009 by a third, to £36 million.
The expert said that consumers can check that they are using genuine products by looking for a logo, such as that of the Soil Association.
She commented: "Carrying proof of certification such as the Soil Association symbol shows consumers that the products are independently verified to high organic standards."
Last week, Sally Penford, education manager for the International Dermal Institute, advised that healthy skin can be promoted by using natural sunblock and following a diet full of fresh fruit and vegetables.
