Organic sunscreen should be 'SPF 30 or higher'
With many of us jetting off to foreign shores this month, it's more important than ever to use natural sunscreen to protect us from the sun's harmful rays.
But with so many products out there, what should we be looking for?
Bevis Man of the British Skin Foundation said that when picking a sunscreen we should think about a number of factors.
"The two biggest revolve around the level of protection from UV radiation you’re getting from the sunscreen. The SPF, sun protection factor, will be the main number you see on the front of the bottle," he said.
Mr Man added that we should choose a sunscreen that has an SPF of 30 or higher, as many of us do not apply the product thickly enough or in the same amounts which they are tested at.
He also said that the UVA rating is important and that we should look for a bottle with four or five stars on it, which shows the level of SPF in relation to UVA.
You might also be interested to hear of a more unusual item that may protect against the sun; coffee.
A Rutgers study suggested that this protects against some skin cancers at a molecular level.
