Scrubbing can harm natural defences
Fans of natural skin care should make sure that they do not overdo it when using face washes and scrubs, according to one expert, who said cleansing too much can remove natural oils.
Kira Blair Mayo, writing for the Cavalier Daily, made the comments while revealing what she believes to be the six biggest skin care myths.
While writing about the myth that scrubbing with soap will keep your skin clear and acne free, she said: "When you scrub your face, you strip away some protective oils and barriers, which can allow bacteria to enter the skin and cause rashes."
Other myths the expert focused on included the incorrect belief that wearing a t-shirt will protect against harmful UV rays and that going to a tanning salon before going on holiday will help skin acclimatise to the sun.
In other skin care news, Dr Jeffrey Lauber recently told creators.com that avoiding sun damage is vital if people want to avoid skin cancer in later life.
