Simple natural skin care routine 'can help acne and rosacea'
If you suffer from acne or rosacea, it may be reassuring to know that you can help treat these conditions by adding some simple steps into your natural skin care routine.
The Independent reported that the 69th annual meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology in the US had seen Dr Diane Berson, of Cornell University, give her advice on how to limit flare-ups and reduce inflammation.
Firstly, Dr Berson advised that over-cleansing can be counter-productive, so rather than scrubbing – which will remove essential lipids and increase irritation – use a non-irritating, pH-balanced natural cleanser.
She explained: "Cleansing products with mild surfactants can remove surface oil and dirt without compromising the skin's barrier function."
For acne, choose an oil-free organic moisturiser, in order to combat the drying effect of medications.
Rosacea-prone skin is often more sensitive to medications and skin care products, so choose lipid-based items to improve your complexion's natural barrier.
The Daily Mail recently reported that over half of women now characterise their skin as sensitive.
