Vitamin E thought to lower eczema risk in children
Fans of natural skin care may be interested to read a recent Japanese study which found children with more Vitamin E in their diet were less likely to develop itchy skin diseases like eczema.
The study was performed on a group of 396 ten to thirteen year olds, 240 of whom had eczema, wheezing, or asthma. The scientists found that the kids with the highest level of Vitamin E in their diet were 67% less likely to suffer from eczema.
Although the study does not prove there is any cause and effect at work, it was more precise than earlier research because previous studies relied on food questionnaires. Such surveys can be unreliable because they depend on memory. Instead this study relied on blood tests which gave an absolute reading of each participants Vitamin E levels
For those looking to boost Vitamin E levels naturally the following foods should be considered: vegetable oils, nuts and whole grains.
Natural skin care brands like A'kin also make body moisturisers which are rich in Vitamin E and because they are free from chemical ingredients they are very gentle on the skin.
