Doctors advise using organic shampoo
If you're looking to keep your body in tip-top shape when heading to the beach this summer, organic shampoo could be the perfect hair product to use.
This is after doctors at the New York-based Mount Sinai Medical Center found that weight gain could partially be caused by chemicals used in some beauty products.
One of the main issues hitting our fitness regimes is phthalates, which can be spotted in around 70 per cent of such items as shampoo, soaps and cosmetics, as the study found these could provide 'endocrine disruptors'.
Pediatrician Maida Galvez, who helped with the research, said: "Even if these chemicals play a small role in obesity, it's a preventable exposure."
She went on to recommend that in order for you to avoid being affected, it could be best to opt for organic beauty products instead.
Meanwhile, to stall the ageing process on your skin this summer, Merle Brown, editor of the 5pm Health and Beauty blog, has recommended buying in some sunscreen that contains SPF.
